“GED” is a registered trademark of the American Council on Education (“ACE”). The GED® Testing Service is a joint venture of the American Council on Education and Pearson, is the sole developer for the GED® Test. Originally, the initials “GED” stood for “general educational development,” and the term shows that the GED® Test measures a learner’s skills in a variety of important subjects. A GED® Test credential shows that the recipient has the same general level of academic achievement as a typical high school graduate.

There are four subject tests in the GED® Test; Mathematical Reasoning, Reasoning through Language Arts, Social Studies and Science.

You must pass all four sections to be awarded a GED certificate.

The GED® Test is about 7.5 hours long total, but it can be taken one subject at a time.

Reasoning through Language Arts: 150 minutes

Mathematical Reasoning: 115 minutes

Social Studies: 70 minutes

Science: 90 minutes

To pass the GED® Test, you will need to score a minimum of 145 out of 200 (at least 45% correct) on each of the four subjects. This equates to getting less than half of the questions correct.

There are three score levels you can earn on your test:

GED Passing Score (145-164)

GED College Ready (165-174)

GED College Ready + Credit (175-200)

If you are under the age of 18, you must have an Underage Waiver prior to scheduling your test. You must be at least 16 to take the test. Once this Underage Waiver has been submitted to the GED office, it will be processed within 3-5 business days of receipt.

Nearly all U.S. colleges and universities accept the GED credential. Universities in many other countries like Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Malaysia, South Africa, Thailand, Bangladesh, Nepal, UAE, and more also recognize it for admission. A GED credential is proof that you have U.S. high school-level academic and English skills. Please check with your prospective university on their admissions policy to find out whether they accept the GED credential.

The International GED exam costs USD $80 per subject. You must take and pass all four subjects in order to graduate. The total cost comes to USD $320.

No problem! You don’t have to wait months to retake it. You can take the GED exam in each subject three times with no restrictions. After the third try, there is a 60-day waiting period before you can sit for the exam again.

Scores are usually available the same day.
